“Vince Genna Stadium in Bend has officially been designated as a DarkSky Certified Outdoor Sports Lighting facility by DarkSky International. This is a major milestone for our ballpark, representing a significant investment in both the fan experience and our impact on the surrounding neighborhood. With the installation of a brand-new lighting system, we’ve dramatically reduced glare and light pollution while also improving visibility on the field.”
Travelers & Dark Sky Experiences
Research from Utah Institute of Outdoor Rec and Tourism
However, “As accelerating development and expanding artificial light erode nighttime visibility, Utah faces a new kind of economic vulnerability. If night skies continue to brighten, scary statistics could follow. Even a 1% increase in night-sky brightness put between $11.8 million and $68.5 million in recreational value at risk across just four months on the Colorado Plateau, according to the research.” Oregon’s skies are also getting brighter. We know how to recover our night skies - by shielding and amber lighting.
